実は手軽な空の遊び自由に滑空できる空の旅
さて早速レクチャーを受けて体験してみることにする。スタート地点は標高1000mの場所だ。助走距離は意外と短く、15mほど。向かい風が吹いたタイミングで全力で走り出し、キャノピーが風で起き上がれば離陸可能となる。他人が飛び出すシーンを見ていると、簡単に飛んでいくのだが……切り立った崖に向かって走るのは正直かなり怖い。しかし飛ばない訳にもいかないので覚悟を決める。
しばし向かい風を待ち、先生の合図で一気に走り出す。本当に怖い。でも、一瞬でキャノピーが持ち上がったのがわかった。もちろん、余裕がないので確認はできない。先生の「良い感じですよ、いきましょう」という声をひたすら信じてそのまま走り続けて空に飛び出す。思わず「おぉ」と声が出たときには空の上である。目の前には大空と絶景。まったく怖さはない。
初挑戦する人のほとんどがそのゆっくりとした速度に驚くと聞いていたが、本当にその通りで、降下するというよりのんびりと空を旅しているような気分になる。動力がないので聞こえるのは風の音だけ。体が剥き出しの状態で飛んでいるのでまさに「鳥」の気分である。飛んでる時間は自由そのもので「都会の喧騒を忘れて……」という言葉がピッタリだ。
徐々に降下していく際も怖さはなくむしろ楽しい。飛行時間は上昇気流次第だそうだが、今回は10分ほど飛んでいただろうか。徐々に木や乗ってきたZ4が大きくなっていき、地表が近づく。着陸も向かい風を受けていたのでスムーズ。最後にフワっと浮いてブレーキをかけ、ストンとおちる感じで着陸。ハマる人も多いはずだ。一生のうちで絶対にやらないと思っていた遊びなのに、結局おかわりをしてもう1回飛んでしまった。食わず嫌いで終わらず、本当に良かったと思う。
また遊びに来ることをスタッフに告げて、帰り支度をしてZ4に乗り込む。少々肌寒かったが、帰りはせっかくなので風を肌で感じるためにオープンに。「次は上昇気流を掴んでもっと遠くへ飛んでみたい」。実は高所恐怖症のスタッフでもそう帰り際に思うのだから、「怖さ」「高さ」で二の足を踏んでいる人でもきっと「大丈夫」なはずだ。

風に恵まれているため、オールシーズンでパラグライダーが楽しめる「スカイ朝霧」。タンデム飛行、一人で飛ぶための講習、道具の販売などパラグライダーを楽しむためのすべての要素を揃えている。料金体系は基本が学べる体験コース（1万円）やタンデム飛行（1万円）、一日かけて楽しむセットコース（1万8500円）などが用意されている。天候に左右されるので基本キャンセル料は発生しないのも嬉しい点だ。
