小噺１：祇園遊びの恋しさを刻んだ石碑がある
夜遊びをするなら、白川沿いに建つ「かにかくに碑」は知って欲しい。刻まれた文字は「かにかくに 祇園はこひし 寐（ぬ）るときも 枕のしたを 水のながるる」。これは祇園を愛した大正・昭和期の歌人・吉井 勇が、寝るときも白川の音が聞こえるほど祇園を恋しく思う気持ちを詠んだ歌。碑は１９５５年に谷崎潤一郎を含む発起人が吉井の古希の祝いに建てた。

京の都の東西南北を青龍、白虎、朱雀、玄武の四神が守っているという有名な言い伝えがある。このうち京都の東（東山）を守護しているとされるのが青龍。東山エリアを代表する名所、八坂神社の御本殿はその下に青龍が住む龍穴、すなわち池があるとされており、パワースポットとなっているのだ。お参り時は、御本殿で青龍にご挨拶をお忘れなきように。

小噺３：おまんじゅう屋さんが守り続ける明智光秀の首塚がある
祇園から白川沿いを歩き、地下鉄東山駅の手前に見えてくるのが餅寅。こちらのお店のそばに明智光秀を祀った首塚があるのにはびっくり。光秀の最期には諸説あるが、こちらは山崎の戦いのあと落ち武者狩りにあった光秀の首を家来が埋めたとされる。そして餅寅は江戸時代からこの首塚を守っているそう。お店の名物に「光秀饅頭」があるのはご愛敬。

小噺４：南座のある四条の河原は歌舞伎発祥の地
歌舞伎の原点は1603年に出雲阿国が、京の四条河原で披露した「かぶきをどり」と言われている。そんな歴史を今に伝える石碑と銅像が、四条大橋周辺にはあるのだ。まず南座の西側（川端通沿い）に建つのは歌舞伎発祥の地の石碑。次に橋の北東付近には出雲阿国の銅像がある。ポーズを決めた阿国さんの銅像と記念撮影するのもおすすめだ。

小噺５：あの世へ通じる黄泉がえりと冥途通いの井戸
平安時代の公卿、小野 篁（おののたかむら）にゆかりがあるのが六道珍皇寺（ろくどうちんのうじ）。小野 篁には昼は官僚として嵯峨天皇に仕え、夜は閻魔大王のために働いていたという摩訶不思議な伝説がある。夜にこの世と冥界を行き来するのに使ったのが「冥途通いの井戸」と「黄泉がえりの井戸」。この２つの井戸は、今も寺の敷地内に残っている。

八坂神社の前にある亀屋清永は１６１７年創業と伝わる名門の京菓子店。こちらを代表する「清浄歓喜団」はなんと約千年前に遣唐使によって唐から伝わったという銘菓だ。元々は亀屋清永が比叡山の阿闍梨（高僧）から製法を教わったもので、伝来当時の姿でいまだに作り続けているという。７種の香料を練り込んだ餡を生地で包み、揚げた風味を賞味あれ。
