〜ジョンの記念碑がある「ストローベリー・フィールズ」〜

Five years after his murder, Yoko undertook the project to create a memorial to John’s memory. Dedicated on the 45th anniversary of John Lennon’s birth, December 9, 1985, Strawberry Fields was created on a 2.5 acre plot between 71st and 74th street and faces the Dakota. It is located in the same area of Central Park that John would love to go take his newborn son, Sean, for quiet walks in a stroller.

ジョンが殺害されてから5年後、洋子はジョンを偲んで記念碑を作るためのプロジェクトに着手しました。、ジョンの45回目の誕生日、1985年12月9日に「ストローベリー・フィールズ」は、71街と74街の間に、ザ・ダコータへ向いた2.5エーカーの広場に、作られました。そこは、ジョンが新生児のショーンを乳母車に乗せて静かに散歩した、セントラルパーク内のお気に入りの場所でもありました。

Strawberry Fields is designated as one of 8 “quiet zones” in Central Park. Visitors can observe the famous “Imagine” mosaic, built by a team of artisans from Naples, Italy, which resides in the center of a teardrop shaped open area in the park. Nearby, a bronze plaque shows the 122 countries that have pledged funds towards the maintenance of the monument grounds.

ストロベリー・フィールズはセントラルパーク内の最も静かな八か所の一つとされています。来場者は、イタリアのナポリの職人のチームによって造られた、有名な「イマジン」のモザイクを見ることができます。このモザイクは、公園の涙の形をした広場の中心にあります。近くには、記念碑の敷地を維持するために資金提供をした122カ国を示す銅銘板があります。

On any day of the year, you’ll see visitors from all over the world. Some there to pay their respects, some who stumbled upon the fields by chance, and some who are just there to sell John Lennon merchandise. Walking through this daily scene on the Upper West Side, John’s legacy still echoes: We are all New Yorkers.

一年中いつでも、世界各地からの訪問者を見ることができます。そこには敬意を払う人もいれば、偶然に畑につまづいた人もいれば、ジョン・レノンの商品を売る人もいます。アッパー・ウエスト・サイドのこの日常シーンを歩いていくと、ジョンから受け継ぐものが響き渡ります。私たちはみんなニューヨーカーである、と。
