The trip to Naples with Fujita san resulted in a monumental shift in my personal style toward bespoke clothing. Fujita san is a rakish dresser and an expert on Neapolitan bespoke tailors. When I asked him to recommend a tailor, he did me a great favour. He told me that he would introduce me to five of his favorite tailors. I would have a chance to meet each one, see their house cuts and most importantly for me, get a feel for which tailor I liked. This last point is very important to me. When I put on a bespoke suit, jacket, shirt, tie or shoes, I think of the artist who made it. It makes me smile and lifts my mood to think the artist is with me throughout the day as I wear their creations. To this end, I chose Maestro Gennaro Solito to make my first Neapolitan bespoke suit as he was an absolute gentleman, as modest as he was kind.

藤田さんとのナポリへの旅は、結果として、私のパーソナルスタイルが、ビスポークの服にシフトした記念の旅となりました。藤田さんは、レイキッシュな着こなしをする人で、ナポリのビスポークテイラーにも非常に詳しいんです。彼に「ナポリのテイラーを推薦して欲しい」とお願いしたら、とても親切にしてくれました。彼のお気に入りの5人のテイラーを、私に紹介すると言ってくれたのです。私は、その5人全員に会って、彼らのハウスカットを見て、さらにこれが私にとっては最も重要なことなんですが「どのテイラーが自分に合っているか？」を感じ取ることができました。この最後の点は、私にとってとても重要なことなのです。私は、ビスポークのスーツ、ジャケット、シャツ、ネクタイ、靴を身につける時、その作り手のことを考えます。彼らの作ったものを身につけることで、その職人たちがその日一日、私と一緒にいるのだと考えると、笑顔になり、気分を上げてくれるのです。そういった意味で、私は、初めてのナポリのビスポークスーツを、ジェンナーロ・ソリート氏にお願いしました。彼は非常に紳士的で、穏やかで、親切だったからです。

The beauty of Neapolitan tailoring is that it is the least constructed and therefore the most comfortable of all the suit styles from Saville Row to Paris and even Milan. The result of combining these suits in flannels, cottons, and linens with bespoke chambray shirts by Camiceria Catarisano and Ascot Chang plus unlined seven fold ties by Stefano Bigi is that I can achieve a look of relaxed elegance which is just right for my job and lifestyle.
