One of the lasting influences of this period on my personal style was my love affair with Gucci loafers which has grown into something of an obsession. If I had to choose only one pair of shoes to wear for the rest of my life it would be the Gucci 1953 Horsebit Loafer. Not only does it suit my predilection for wearing shoes sans socks, but Gucci loafers go with absolutely everything from sportswear to formal wear and everything in between, and rakishly so!

Not every brand in Milan was endorsing the minimalist aesthetic. Luxury houses like Emenegildo Zegna and Loro Piana were staying true to their classic Italian roots. After doing the shows for both brands, I spent months as a fitting model and working in their showrooms. This is where I was first influenced by Italian tailoring and luxury sportswear.
ミラノの全てのブランドがミニマリストだったわけではありません。エルメネジルド ゼニアやロロ ピアーナといったラグジュアリーブランドは、クラシックイタリアンのルーツに忠実でした。両方のブランドのショーを経験した後、私は、フィッティングモデルとして、彼らのショールームで何ヶ月か働きました。そこで私は、イタリアンテーラリングとラグジュアリースポーツウェアについて初めて学んだのです。
The color pallet at these luxury houses was decidedly not monochromatic, but rather quiet tones of blues and greys and elegant shades of snuff and cream. The fabrics, the production of which both family businesses got their starts, were mostly natural wools, cashmeres, cottons and linens. This was about understated elegance, and I saw that there was another side to Italian style.
ラグジュアリーブランドのカラーパレットは、意図的にモノクロではありませんでした。むしろ、ブルーやグレー、たばこ色やクリームなどのエレガントなカラートーンをしていました。どちらのブランドも、まず織物工場からファミリービジネスをスタートしており、使用する生地は主に、天然のウールやカシミア、綿、麻でした。それは、さりげないエレガンスとも言え、イタリアンスタイルの別の側面を見ることができました。
Working for Loro Piana and Ermenegildo Zegna made a lasting impression on me, and my style would move in that direction when, after four years of living in Milan, I moved to Japan where my personal style would come together with the influences of my past and the new influences to come.
ロロ ピアーナとエルメネジルド ゼニアで働いたことで、私の印象はできあがり、その後も長く続くことになりました。そして、ミラノに4年住んだ後、私は日本に移住するのですが、そこで、私の過去からの影響と、日本で出会った新しい影響が共存する、私のパーソナルスタイルができあがることになるのです。
